The largest civil transport aircraft in the world, the "Beluga" Super Transporter, has been the new workhorse for Airbus Industrie transport since1996. It replaces the old "Super Guppy", used to bring all the major components from England, Germany, Spain, Italy and France to the final assembly lines in Toulouse and Hamburg. The "Beluga", a superlative aircraft has, for example, thelargest body volume (main cargo compartment 1400 m3), the largest body diameter ever built and the largest cargo door (height 17.3 metres) With its payload capacity, the "Beluga" can carry a large portion of the high volume fuselage of the four-jet long-range Airbus A340, a fully equipped pair of A330/A340 wings or two pairs of A320 wings. With a top speed of 750 km/h and a range of 1700 km, it can also transport complete satellites or the first stage of an Ariane rocket. A total of 5 "Belugas" are in service.
