The Independence is an all-new prototype in a new US Navy class of warship. It is constructed in an unusual trimaran configuration and can make over 40 knots at top speed. She was commissioned in January 2010. This Trumpeter kit consists of over 170 plastic parts on 9 sprues plus a whopping 300 photo-etched parts! Loaded with incredible detail, it includes one MQ-8 UAV and two MH-60S helicopters. The kit has a two-piece top and bottom hull assembly with detailed deck hangars, lifeboats, anchor, detailed antenna and masts, full waterjet detail (ship has no propellers!), 57mm traversing gun, elevating SeaRAM close-in weapons system (CIWS), searchlights, complete command center, vertical launching system (VLS), bow thrusters and markings for the US Navy. Photo-etched parts include handrails, deck details, hatch doors, helicopter rotors, deck details and 145 deck tie-downs! This is the most detailed kit of this subject on the market!
