Item Description

This 1/4 Scale Visible V-8 Engine Plastic Assembly Kit from Revell is the winner of the 2008 Parents Choice Award and Silver Honor - 1995 Doing & Learning Toys. What better way to see how an internal combustion engine works than to be able to see all of the parts move! As you turn the crank, each of the parts move, just like the real thing. The Visible V8 Engine features moving pistons and connecting rods. A hand crank operates the pistons, camshaft rocker arms and valves. The kit includes a rubber fan belt and vinyl ignition wires. Also included is a display stand and screwdriver for construction. A superb educational tool on the inner workings and construction of a V-8 engine! This is a skill level 3 model, recommended for ages 12 and up.

This is a really nice model engine kit. The nuts and screws are metric and will not fit correct in some places, so some fitting work is required, It is a level three kit. It does take a while to build, but looks nice when finished. It is designed by Renwal from a Studebaker 289 V8 engine back in 1959. This has been researched by the Studebaker restoration people. The original engine has electric spark plugs and a motor. Since 1996, Revell used a hand crank as seen here. Dont use vegetable oil on the model engine or it will have a melt down. Use only plastic safe oils on this engine. This model engine has been around a very long time (1960) and continues to survive until today. It will make a nice addition to your model collection.

Every young car fan will at some time wonder about the inner workings of an engine. With that curiosity in mind, the builder can learn a lot about engines going through this build. One thing that must be said, though, is that lubrication and tolerances should be understood in order to get the rotating parts of this kit to work well. If you get it right, this is a delight to watch and show off to friends. Ford fans know that this must be a GM engine based upon the rear-mounted distributor. Even if it bears no labels, it still represents the basic production engine well.
